Here's why so many professional web designers are using wix

Today, Wix is the biggest player in the website building landscape and hosts a whopping 160 million websites...

Website builders such as Wix, Weebly and Squarespace have risen in popularity over the recent years, it’s also the case that the demand for web designers has risen simultaneously. Here at Moon Digital, we are specialists in Wix website design. We used to build websites using other types of website design software, such as JavaScript and WordPress, but found that actually Wix was a much better option for clients looking for a beautiful, functional and user friendly website for their business. We have the ability to design on any platform for you, but we much prefer to use Wix...

Here's why more and more professional web designers are abandoning WordPress and JavaScript for using builders like Wix.

1. Time:

Web designers cater to a diverse clientele and work under intense time constraints. In these circumstances, an online website editor, such as wix, can be a terrific solution for many web design projects. It's ideal for most small to medium sized businesses. A huge challenge for freelance web designers is having to depend on developers to code their designs. With Wix, the code is already done for you meaning that designers can create beautiful designs in less time for the clients, keeping the cost down.

2. Versatility:

Wix’ drag-and-drop editor offers numerous customisation options that grant the designer maximum artistic freedom. A huge variety of apps, images and widgets that enhance the user experience are available at a click of a button. It enables us to build our clients sleek and complex websites with sophisticated features. There are so many “wow” features, from video backgrounds to parallax or columns!

Some 'old-fashioned' web developers will tell you Wix is too basic! But Wix has advanced a lot in the last few years. There's options for adding personalised code for more advanced features via the embed HTML widgets or the wix code (VELO); here you set up custom API interactions by means of JavaScript. You can also create databases. The only limit is your imagination!

It's great for SEO friendly blogs too! It comes with the features that you’ll need (e.g. tags, categories, RSS, etc.). It’s also possible to schedule blog posts. With the Wix mobile app you are able to edit and publish articles on the go. You can even sell paid subscriptions to your blog posts. It's quick and easy!

3. Client Friendly

Professional designers can choose the extent to which your client is involved in the process. In the early work stages, clients can log in and add comments directly inside the editor, thus saving time and minimizing misunderstandings in the communication. Clients can see what is happening and tend to feel much happier as they have a sense of control. After the site has been officially launched and published, clients can have the freedom to decide whether they want us (the designer) to maintain the site for them or to edit the site themselves. This gives clients much more flexibility and options in the long term as the site isn't all built in code.

4. Conversions

The web designer has complete control to create a bespoke website inside the Wix editor, and does not have to use built-in templates. Due to the advances with the Wix editor we can do most things design wise and can find workarounds for any problems. This means, when you pick a designer who has the knowledge and skill of a user interface specialist who understands how to convert traffic into customers, you get an affordable, attractive and high performing website.

Remember though, whilst we're saying that it's easy for a novice to create a site inside the Wix editor, we do recommend you go to an expert to support you with getting the function and interface suitable for the websites' purpose. There's a lot more to a successful website that just a pretty site!

5. Device Compatibility

Wix websites are built as responsive websites which means they're viewable on all devices across all web browsers and software. The websites perform just as well on a desktop as a mobile or tablet device. This is ideal with the amount of mobile users today.

6. SEO and getting found in Google:

Many people are concerned that a website built using a website builder like Wix won't perform as well with SEO as a website built traditionally using JavaScript or WordPress. Yes, you may have heard bad things about Wix’s SEO capabilities, which was still true a few years ago. However, they have improved massively, letting you edit page titles, meta descriptions, and alt tags individually. There are even advanced SEO tools like 301 redirects. Beginners can even use the SEO Wiz, a guided tutorial to help you to have a go yourself.

If you're new to SEO we do recommend getting some support to get traffic to your site.

The Costs Of Hosting a Pro Wix Site

There are a few things to know about Wix and the on-going costs involved, as with any website. Wix is available for free for as long as you want. Great right!? If you need professional features though like your own domain name or ecommerce, you must choose from one of their premium plans ranging from “Combo” to “Business VIP”. The cheapest ad-free plan with a custom domain name costs just £6 per month. These include a free SSL so that your site is secure and safe too.

Who is a Wix Site for?

Their visually impressive layouts are designed for small and medium businesses, restaurants, online stores and artists such as musicians and photographers. In a way you can compare Wix to a prefabricated house: the fundamental structure already exists and can’t be changed. You can, however, paint the walls to your gusto (choose a theme) and add the furniture you love (photo galleries and other apps). But, wix do have a new developer feature too where code can be added to create something truly bespoke, plus original designs scan be created by a talented designer without the use of the templates.

Still not convinced?! Here's some great websites built using Wix:
